They gained eminence after the overpowering of the "Satavahana Empire".  Pallavas became a major power during the reign of Mahendra Varman I and Narashima Varman I and controlled the northern parts of the Tamil and Telugu region for around "600 years" until the expiration of the 9th century.

   Pallavas are renowned for their "patronage of architecture", and have left behind magnificent temples and sculptures, establishing the foundation of "medieval South Indian architecture".
