The pamphlet brought out by the District Family Welfare Bureau in connection with the female foeticide awareness rally in Salem city recently brought to light some interesting facts and figures on the issues confronting women.

It said that more than one crore female foeticide incidents were reported in the country in the last ten years..

There were some informative statistics of general interest too. Salem district registered 17 per cent birth rate, 6.1 per cent death rate; 26.5 per cent infant death rate; and 0.91 per cent delivery complications death rate.

About 72.9 per cent of the total population of Salem district of 34,82,054 are literates and 10.2 per cent of the families had three or more children, according to the pamphlet.
