Pancreatic juice requires a basic medium for their action, with pH ranging between 7-8.

Pancreatic juice itself is a highly alkaline liquid with pH being around 8-8.4. It is composed of water, sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, bicarbonate, chloride and sulphate ions, proteolytic and lipolytic enzymes, some immunoglobulins and albumins.

Bicarbonates make the “pancreatic juice alkaline” and neutralize the “acidic chime” received from the ‘stomach’ before the juice can act on it.
