The Atomic Energy Commission of India owes its establishment to its first chairman Homi J Bhabha and the then Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

It was Pandit Nehru’s confidence in Bhabha, which led him to make India self-reliant in nuclear power.

Atomic Energy Commission of India was set up in the department of Atomic Energy by a special resolution which was passed by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 1st March, 1958.
