Math, asked by MrAdityaAlok, 10 months ago

Papu and Puttu are in the shopping complex. They found an escalator
that is moving up at a constant speed. Both take the escalator to climb up but instead of letting the escalator doing the complete work, they walk up the escalator at different speeds. Papu has a walking speed
twice that of Puttu. Papu reaches the top of the escalator after having
climbed 40 steps while Puttu takes only 30 steps to reach to the top (as
the escalator does more work for him because of his slower pace of
walking)or climbing stairs. If the escalator were turned off, how many,steps would he have to take to walk up?

Answer:

60 Steps

Step-by-step explanation:

Let say Total steps = Y

Let say Pappu took 40 steps in T₁  time

So escalator did Y - 40 steps in T₁ time

Let say Puttu took 30 steps in T₂  time

So escalator did Y - 30 steps in T₂ time

Speed of Pappu = 40/T₁

Speed of Puttu = 30/T₂

Speed of Pappu = 2 * Speed of Puttu

=> 40/T₁ = 2 * 30/T₂

=> T₂ = 1.5T₁

Escalator Speed = (Y - 40)/T₁ = (Y - 30)/T₂

putting  T₂ = 1.5T₁

=> (Y - 40)/T₁ = (Y - 30)/1.5T₁

Cancelling T₁ from both sides

=> (1.5)(Y - 40) = Y - 30

=> 1.5Y - 60 = Y - 30

=> 0.5Y = 30

=> Y = 60

If the escalator were turned off, 60 steps would he have to take to walk up
