Lakshmibai, the Rani of Jhansi, was the Maharani consort of the Maratha princely state of Jhansi from 1843 to 1853 as the wife of Maharaja Gangadhar Rao. She was one of the leading figures of the Indian Rebellion of 1857 and became a symbol of resistance to the British Raj for Indian nationalists. Rani Lakshmibai bravely protected Jhansi for seven days. She fought the British bravely with her small armed force.

Rani Lakshmi Bai also popularly known as Rani of Jhansi was the Queen of Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh. She was born on 19th November, 1828 in Varanasi and was named Manikarnika by her parents.
She was married to the King of Jhansi, Raja Gangadhar Rao and had a son named Damodar Rao in 1851. Sadly in 4 months, her son passed away and she along with Raja Gangadhar, adopted the son of his cousin and named him Damodar Rao.
Rani Lakshmi Bai was known to be the face of the 1857 rebellion against the Britishers. Her valor and courage gave the British government a very tough time.
