I would go to the past to be merely an observer of our history and see how close we would be to what we estimate what would have happened. I would see empires raise and fall, no interruptions at any given time because time is delicate and shouldn’t be played around with. So I would travel back and watch the story of humanity unfold, I would take a notepad though and write down any interesting things, see if humanity made any progress at all when it comes to cooperating and if not, see if I could find possible flaws that would be fixable in the present.

I would then travel to Germany, prove I was a time traveler and convince Hitler to declare victory. By that time the holocaust hadn't been started, and the Nazi government only wished to expel the Jews from Europe, not exterminate them. That way millions of innocent soviets wouldnt have died, the holocaust wouldnt have happened, Nazi Germany would likely collapse in only a few decades, and countless millions of civilians would be saved.
