The British already weak after the Second World War realised that they could no longer rule India. They decided to divide India into two parts India and Pakistan and leave the country. The eastern part of Bengal divided earlier was called Bangladesh and become the part of Pakistan. India become an independent country on 15 August 1947. Jawaharal Nehru become become India's first Prime Minister. Mahatama Gandhi is the National father of India.
