Dear Mother and Father:

I hope this letter finds you in great health and cheerfulness. Grandmother and I are living quite comfortably at the village. She looks after me very well. She wakes me up quite early. Then she bathes me. After the bath she serves me delicious breakfast. She never forgets to take me to the school. While she is doing all these activities, she is chanting holy hymns; she does it on purpose so that my mind be influenced by the holiness of the chants. You won’t believe she accompanies me to school everyday. When I study at school, she sits at the temple adjacent to the school and studies scriptures. She escorts me home after the school. While returning the home, she feeds the stray dogs. She teaches me lots of spiritual things. She never lets me feel your absence. The rest is fine. Lots of love to both of you. Grandmother is also sending her blessings.

Yours lovingly,

Khushwant

Dear Mother,

Hope this letter finds you and father in good health. I am having a good time staying with grandpa and grandma here in Belgaum. I think it was a wise decision of yours to make me complete my high school here. Thanks to the less distractions, I am able to study a lot better. I also find time to play with my friends every evening. We usually play cricket, but we also play some other fun games like Lagori, Gilli-Danda now and then. I sometimes help granny in cooking too.

There are many perks to studying here. Once a week, all the students of the village school sleep in our classes itself and it is so much fun. All the teachers treat us like family, as we are all very close to each other. We are provided free meals from the government every afternoon. In the evenings, it usually rains and thus it makes it even more fun to walk back home! I also haven't forgotten my motive of doing well in school - I study five hours everyday. The school is just a two minute walk from our home, which is a boon compared to the two-hour journey in Bangalore. Overall, my high school life is going well and I hope to exceed all your expectations.

Do write me a letter when you are free. As there is no internet coverage here, I cannot send messages or emails, but I would be waiting to receive your letter. Do convey my regards to papa.

Your loving son,
Rahul
