Parents would have struggled their whole life to nurture and care for their children to the extent of knowledge they have. We care and respect for them because they have provided value to us through out their life and the best way to show gratitude is provide double the value to them. Value could be in terms of care, respect ,attention, affection ,acknowledgement ,nurture ,hospitality or kindness.
Simple things like calling them up or taking them to a restaurant they like or helping them with some chores when we visit them says a lot to them. Never compensate your time with material gifts .It might make them feel happy but not for a long time.
We need to focus on bringing joy in to their lives and not just mere happiness. There is a difference. Respect is another important attribute that everyone must give their parents. There is nothing that would please them more when their kids treat them with respect and adoration.
