Answer:

There are many ways which different cultures interact generationally. In traditional China, Confucian law encourages an utmost respect for the family unit, and innate value for its older members. And although times are changing, so too do Japan and Korea celebrate the ages of the old. Latin cultures have a similar respect traditionally with their elders, as do many native tribes. Western culture however, contemporary as it prides itself to be, holds a far more youth-centric outlook. This is a concern, as statistics are showing levels of depression and anxiety have skyrocketed due to a decrease in value once we reach a certain age.

Answer:

much as they respect me. My grandmother is very brave and courageous. She has seen a lot in life. But she gives minimum amount of unsolicited advice. And if we don't follow she is okay…she understands an advice.. it's the other person's wish to follow it or not.

Few elders don't understand. They don't accept that others can have different opinions and they may be equally right. Even if they are wrong they have the right to experiment. They believe there is only one right decision. And it's their decision. They believe there unsolicited opinion is some kind of law. And for me no matter how right they may be their unsolicited opinion is rubbish.

I respect elders who treat me as equal. So I don't believe in touching someone's feet. If I am equal why should I touch anyone's feet. I will definitely not teach these things to my daughter. I will teach her to respect everyone equally irrespective of age, gender or social status. I will teach her to challenge everyone's opinions if she thinks there is a different approach to something. I will bear the cost of this defiance but i am ready to pay this price.

If elders knew everything in this world there would be no new technology or discoveries. For my daughter and other children I am an elder. I never try to instruct someone how to do something, what to do etc. My daughter will be taught to do lots of things by me and I will make a conscious effort to give her freedom to do things differently and in her way.
