Festive occasions not only bring joy but, these festival celebrations help in strengthening the unity among the Indians. Festivals like Diwali, Eid and Christmas are enjoyed by all with the same spirit and fervor. Man, being a social being, it is but natural that we should celebrate our festivals with friends, neighbors, and relatives. In India, most of our festival are occasions to get together with family and friends and neighbors at large. Festivals like Holi, Vinayaka Chathurthi, Dussehra or Navarathri as it is called in some States are all festivals that involve the community we live in.
These festivals are celebrated together with our neighbors.
- In Holi, the previous night the entire community joins together to burn Holika in the pyre, and later the next day, colors are sprayed and put on friends, family, and neighbors.
- In Vinayaka Chathurthi huge idols of Lord Ganesh are placed in apartments or colonies and everyone participates in it. Dussehra and Navarathri are also festivals where we go to our neighbor’s home and everyone gets together.
- Pongal or Shankaranthi is the annual harvest festival where a lot of events and sports activities take place.
- In Gokulashtami, we have the Dahi handi where the butter pot is broken and the winning team takes away the prize money.
These are all festivals where neighbors and friends get together and celebrate. Diwali is another occasion where all the children get together and burst crackers. The more the merrier phrase is apt for all our festivals and celebrations. It is more enjoyable when friends and neighbors celebrate festivals together.
