Books are man’s best friends. Books are the best companions man can have. They do not come with an expiry date.
Whenever someone is feeling bored, they can just pick up a book and refresh their mind. IF somebody is feeling low, they can motivate themselves by reading a relevant book.
If you are happy, well, you can write your own book too!!
Writing a book does not need any previous qualification. If we have the desire to express ourselves through writing, we may simply go ahead do the needful.
There is nothing that would stop us. Writing skills develop over time as and when we begin to write. There are just too many authors on the block.
Every author in his own tailor-made professional. Different authors cater to different kinds of audiences. Writing a book is like building an asset from scratch.
It requires new and imaginative ideas, it requires content that is meaningful and appealing to people, is understandable, is relevant with the current times, connects with people.
If I were a book, I would probably travel from a user of one generation through many other people of different other age groups and finally pass on to a mature, senior citizen.
At a ripe old age, people are often spotted spending time listening to good music or reading good books.
That is because, at a later stage in life, one realizes that after spending a whole lifetime in earning money and making a hard career, what ultimately remains is love and relationships.
Through books they can reach out to this truth in a more gracious way. They can even avoid their loneliness in the company of books. So books become their best companions at a later stage in life.
Considering myself as a book, let me talk about my journey through different hands, right from an infant to an aged person.
Firstly, let’s consider a tiny tot who has been given a book to distract his mind and remain calm while his mother is busy with her work.
The toddler’s mother has handed him over a book to keep him occupied with something (here it’s me!). The infant is holding the book in one of his hands, passing it on from one hand to the other, turn by turn.
He is playing with the book. He is surprised by the bright and colorful pictures inside it. He doesn’t seem to understand what is written exactly, but he surely knows I am there to provide his some adventure.
He throws me down as a toy and it hurts me. He again picks me up and this time he is more interested in turning the pages.
After sometime, he probably lost interest in me and left me at the table and moved on to another attractive toy he spotted.
Moving on, I am now in the hands of a student. A very seriously studying student, preparing for his exam, holding the book tightly enough, as if to gobble up the whole content at once.
The student is really worried about his performance in the exam. All his anxieties are resulting on my pages.
At times, he is scratching the pages with his pen and at other times, squeezing me when he is isn’t able to follow a concept. Finally, his exams are over and he places me at a safe place inside the cupboard never to open me up again.
I am now seemingly more professional in the hands of a career minded workaholic. I am more of a stress buster and provide him relaxation during the weekends.
In fact I get the company of soothing music as the person who is holding me usually enjoys reading me through in the company of background music.
As pointed out earlier, I am one of his most common modes of relaxation during the weekends and I am the chosen one. I am the obvious choice.
I am handled well too. The working professional gives me lot of importance regarding my appearance and generally tends to take good care of me.
He, being a well groomed professional is good at morals and ethics and possible had adapted a part of them by reading me through the years.
After a good journey with a career minded person, I am now in the hands of a senior citizen. I am mostly seen in his hands, for most part of the day, when he is not indulging in his daily chores.
Apart from the best service that he has given me, he just loves to read me again and again. He has a special attachment and bonding that I didn’t see with anyone else.
That is possibly because he has fewer connections with the outside world due to his age factor.
He also seems to have a weakened attachment process with his close family circle, not because there is none to care for him, but because everyone is quite busy in their own worlds.
The elderly man chooses to keep me for his good company, loves to read me though, laughs at me, gets serious at some points, drops a tear when a low phase passes in the book.
My journey starts with an infant, moved through a student, then a working professional and finally in the hands of an elderly man.
According to the natural behavior of specific age groups, every person was able to hold on to me in different roles.
