Answer:

Importance of trees

We depend on trees for our survival. The oxygen of the air that we breathe to stay alive is released by trees. Trees absorb the harmful carbon dioxide and release oxygen. This reduces the level of carbon dioxide in the air and decreases the cases of lungs cancer and other diseases of the respiratory system.

Trees are home to many animals and birds. Many animals feed on tree leaves to survive. Trees offer us shade when it is hot. But despite our dependence on trees, we are continuing to cut them down. This is one of the major causes of global warming which causes extreme climatic conditions.

The roots of trees prevent soil erosion. The absence of trees leads to desertification. Trees retain rainwater in the soil. This rainwater is then available to us in springs and wells during the dry season. Without trees rainfall decreases and cultivation becomes impossible and there will be food scarcity.

Many trees have medicinal values and save lives. Trees reduce air and noise pollution. Trees also add beauty to our surroundings. The quality and the very survival of all life forms depend on how much surface of the Earth is covered by trees. Hence, the felling trees must be stopped and the planting of trees taken up with urgency

on a large scale.
