India attained freedom from the British rule on August 15,1947.But it became a sovereign,socialist and secular republic on January 26,1950 with Dr.Rajendra Prasad as its first President.This occasion is celebrated s Republic Day every year all over the country.It is a public holiday when processions are taken out in all the State Capitals to mark the histori occasion.
