India attained freedom from the British rule on August 15,1947.But it became a sovereign,socialist and secular republic on January 26,1950 with Dr.Rajendra Prasad as its first President.This occasion is celebrated s Republic Day every year all over the country.It is a public holiday when processions are taken out in all the State Capitals to mark the histori occasion.

INDEPENDENCE DAY

The Independence Day of India, which is celebrated religiously throughout the Country on the 15th of August every year, holds tremendous ground in the list of national days, since it reminds every Indian about the dawn of a new beginning, the beginning of an era of deliverance from the clutches of British colonialism of more than 200 years. It was on 15th August 1947 that India was declared independent from British colonialism, and the reins of control were handed over to the leaders of the Country.

• Tri-colored kites can be seen in north India as a symbol of celebrating Independence day.

• Independence day fills patriotism and nationalism in the hearts of the youngsters of our country and reminds them of the sacrifices and struggles of our freedom fighters.
