Women in India have been given equal rights as men; however, people do not follow this rule. They contribute to the growth and development of our country; still, they are living in fear. Women are now on respected positions in the country, but if we take a look behind the curtains, we see even then they are being exploited. Each day we read about horrific crimes being committed against women in our country like it’s a norm.

Your question is extremely vague, please don't take any offence. India is a large country, not just in terms of geography, but also in terms of culture. One part of the country can be ‘worlds apart' from another part. Had it been a particular city or even a state, it would have been much easier to answer your question.
I was in my early 15s and was travelling alone from Mumbai to Delhi by train. After boarding the train I found out that my ticket was not confirmed, which meant I was suppose to travel the entire journey sitting with my luggage near the toilets. As this was my first time travelling by myself, I had no idea about the waiting list or anything else.
So I sat there, sitting on top of my baggage, near the toilets, scared and feeling really frustrated. People passing around me were giving me all sorts of looks. Which was reminding me of the horrors I had experienced during my teenage. Amongst these eyes, there was one young guy, ‘checking me out'. He was a huge guy, dark skinned; thick, shabby hair; his shirt half tucked in his jeans. I actually got scared of him, dispite my confident cool display. After a while he cameto me and asked, “is your seat not confirmed ?” To which I said, “And why is that your concern?” while shivering with fear inside and still talking boldly. He smiled and went away. It was getting really late in the night and I was getting sleepy as well as scared. He came after a while and said, “ my seat is next to a nice family, you can go and rest there for some time.” I was shocked and politely declined. He insisted so I agreed saying I'll just sleep there for couple of hours and then later he can go to his seat and sleep. To my surprise, I woke up when it was not so early morning. And I saw him all tired and sleepy sitting at the place where I sat the previous night with my luggage. I then talked to him, he told me that he was from Delhi, studying in Mumbai. I felt sorry for the guy because he had a sleepless night. I thanked him and promised myself to never judge a person like I did the day before.
India or abroad, man or woman, its both, safe and very dangerous.
It depends upon few factors, like where you are, what kind of people are around you, and how you portray yourself. Confidence is the key. No matter where you are, there will always be people around you who will try to harm you or get there way with you. You just need to have confidence in whatever you are doing, and have a good judgement about whats going on around you. Rest, just have faith.
