Suryamani Bhagat is an activist with 'Save the forests of Jharkhand movement'; she is the founder of 'Torang' a tribal rights and cultural center in Kotari Village, Ranchi district in Jharkhand. Suryamani works to save the forest where she lives and preserve her tribal culture with her community.

The "Girl Stars" project includes this series of films documenting the stories of girls from the most disadvantaged communities across five northern states of India who, through attaining education, have managed to break the shackles of socio-economic constraints and make successful, self-sufficient lives for themselves. These young women have become role models in their communities and beyond, inspiring girls to go to school and continue their education.

Suryamani Bhagat, The Forest Activist is known for her work in saving the forests and promoting the culture of tribal people.

She was born in Jharkhand. Her family faced a lot of problems in their early life where she was also bound to drop out from the school.

Suryamani is known for "Save the forest of Jharkhand movement". She is also the founder of "Torang" which is the cultural center of tribal rights in Kotari village, Ranchi, Jharkhand.

Although, Suryamani has graduated from Sanskrit but she quit teaching as she wanted to protect the forests in her homeland.

She has been working for protecting her lands and human rights. She and her team has worked hard for stopping deforestation, mining and polluting industries, mono-cropping etc.
