His name was Vallabh Bhai Patel, but he was called Sardar because he had the leadership qualities which lead India to independence.

He was born on 31st October 1875 In Gujarat, and he studied in various schools and colleges of Gujarat only. He soon became a lawyer and was very successful in his profession. But his inner-self always wanted to do something for the country, and that is why he joined Indian national congress.

He becomes a major leader in the Indian national congress and also organized the Quit India movement which eventually leads the way for India’s independence.

Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel was the first commander in chief of Indian armed forces and served as the same from 15th August 1947 to 15th December 1950. He was also the first Deputy Prime Minister and first Home Minister of Independent India and served the country for the same period.

Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel was the first one who cared about the peace in the country. Post-independence, he took responsibility to bring back the inner peace of the country and brought the peace back at a very quick time.

He believed in unity in diversity, and that is why on 31st of October every year, National Unity Day gets celebrated from the year 2014 until now to remember the works he did for the unity of India.
