We observe that many road accidents occur everyday. In these accidents many people lose their lives or become disabled. Due to increase in population and number of road vehicles the graph of road accidents is going higher and higher. Most of these accidents occur due to our carelessness and not following the traffic rules. These are man-made disasters which can be minimized if we are more careful while travelling on roads. The traffic rules should be followed by all road users-motorists, rickshaw-pullers, cyclists as well as pedestrians.

Some of the important traffic rules are as follows :

• Drivers should follow the traffic signals or hand signals given by the traffic police.

• An adequate distance should always be maintained from the vehicle ahead of us.

• We should not drive faster than the speed limit.

• Sudden use of brakes should be avoided.

• We should take extra precautions while overtaking to ensure safety.

• We should use helmets while driving two-wheelers.

• While turning right or left, we should give signals.

• On express highways, we should stick to the proper lane.

• Pedestrians should keep to the left and use the zebra-crossing.

• We should give way to the vehicles passing on the right side.
