One of the known species of apes is the bonobo or dwarf chimpanzee. Now, most of
you have heard about chimpanzees, right? The bonobos can be distinguished by their

They are found in Congo, Central Africa These great apes are the closest living relatives
of humans. Due to the increase in hunting and poaching many bonobos have lost their
lives and many more have lost their mothers. This is where organisations such as Lola ya
Bonobo step in to help protect this endangered species
Founded by Claudine André in 1994. Lola ya Bonobo is the world's only sanctuary for
orphaned bonobos. Here, human beings act as adoptive mothers and family to take care
of orphaned bonobos. For the apes that are highly social (despite the human-wildlife
conflict that has made them suffer for years), this is a great environment. Their new
human mothers take care of them the way their own mothers would and help them return
to the wild someday. For an endangered species like the bonobo, conservation with the
possibility of knowing love from family is a great opportunity. You will find that it is a sight
