A memorable evening
It was the 15th of August. I was to participate at the Philharmonic Orchestra that was to be held at the iconic Victoria Memorial. It was organised by the famous Kolkata Orchestra Foundation.
I was excited as it was my first show. I set out from my house two hours in advance. One could never trust the Kolkata traffic and also my house was at NewTown a far off distance from the Memorial.
Suddenly there was a series of flashes followed by tremendous roaring. We were hit by a thunderstorm. It began to pour and before long we were stranded in the midst of a flood of water.
I got out of the car and tried to gauge the level of the water. The water was deep rising. There was no way of continuing the journey. I was heart broken.
Suddenly I saw two men taking out their violins and climbing the roof of their car. They too were to attend the Orchestra. Another slipped out of the car with his flute. Soon all of us started playing our instruments. I was playing my cello.
Some were just clapping their hands while others were thumping their cars like drums. We continued our orchestra in the rain and played symphony after symphony be they of Mozart, Beethoven or Bach. We had set to undertake the impossible and our enthuses were the rain drenched commuters of Kolkata. It was then that I realized that Kolkata is not only the 'City of Joy' but also the 'City of Music'. The rain, our music and the music enthuses together created the Rain Drop Sonata!
