Kerala had been experiencing torrential rain since May 10th, 2018 till 10th August 2018. After the rain stopped, the government released the water that was building uneven pressure on the walls of the dams in the region. By 15th August, whole Kerala was drenched in water. There was a major loss of life and facility due to this calamity which struck all fourteen districts of this state. Landslides and sinking of homes were very common effects that were seen after the merciless rain which caused the flood. Eight districts were declared on red alert. This calamity was listed as a Level-3 Calamity by the Environmental Hazard Officials of India. Moreover, this disaster is compared to “the Great Flood” which arrived in 1924.
