We have better control of the electric appliances in a parallel combination using... if we have a very sensitive electrical device we can have a parallel low resistor to protect the device from high current
We have to derive parallel combination of resistor and write its application in daily life.
Parallel combination :
- Two or more resistors are said to be connected in parallel combination when the current flowing through each of them is different.
- In parallel combination, the terminal voltage of each of the resistors is same.
Let two resistors R₁ and R₂ are connected in parallel combination in a circuit .
From Ohm's law,
i₁ = V₁/R₁
i₂ = V₂/R₂
As we already mentioned that terminal voltage of each of the resistors is same.
∴ V₁ = V₂ = V
Let an equivalent resistor R is joined in place of two resistor then,
I = V/R
Here, I = I₁ + I₂
⇒ V/R = V/R₁ + V/R₂
⇒ 1/R = 1/R₁ + 1/R₂
Therfore equivalent resistance of n resistors joined in parallel combination is given by, 1/R = 1/R₁ + 1/R₂ + 1/R₃ + ... + 1/Rₙ
Use and application of parallel combination of resistors in everyday life :
- All domestic and industrial appliances are connected in parallel combination in circuit because this keeps the voltage constant and makes the electricity more functional and workable.
- If one device or appliance is damaged, it helps to continue the work of rest of the devices without interrupting.
- Effective resistance is less in parallel than series, so in minimum voltage, we can get maximum current. that's why it is more preferable.
- We have better control over the electric appliance in parallel combination using switches, we can off or on whenever we want.
