Parallels of latitude always lie parallel to the Prime Meridian. This is because they are equidistant from the poles and from each other. The latitude of each and every point is the same between north and south, i.e., the same between 0 degree to 90 degrees.

One degree measures 69 miles. Each of them are parallel to the Equator too. Hence, they are also known as parallels of latitude.
