Parents are the best teachers of a man. Since early infancy, parents are the people with whom a man spends maximum amount of time. They play quite a pivotal role not only in the development of his moral and ethical values. A child learns more by watching and imitating the people around him.
They teach him first psycho-motor skills; they are his language teacher. They teach him how to sit, crawl, toddle, walk, and run. As he grows parents teach him how to socialize with other people in the society.
Since parents influence a child’s moral and ethical aspect so much, they must be very careful in observing and practicing their own ethics and morals. In the presence of their children they must not intentionally or unintentionally do, say or act anything immoral and unethical. They must always remember children learn behavior and values indirectly more than directly. For example if parents wish their children to be hardworking, they must be hardworking themselves. Similarly if they wish their child to be truthful, they must practice truthfulness themselves, otherwise teaching morality to children will do them more harm than good. Example is always better than precept after all.
