Answer:

Mallaiah cried silently in the jail due to all the suppressed and unexpressed grief, owing to all the turmoil in his life, that caught him off-guard.

Explanation:

Vattikota Alwar Swamy's renowned short story titled  "Parige'’ talks sternly about the caste-based prejudices and injustice faced in Telangana.

More precisely, it talks about the plight of a Dalit who is jailed for no fault of his. This gives us an insight into the inhuman social injustice that took place in Feudal Telangana.

Translated into English by Dr. Elanaaga, it gives us a highly vivid description of Mallaiah’s misery, one of the many victims of this evident prejudice.

Mallaiah had been imprisoned for gathering parige in the fields, which was very common, since it helped with their profession. He was heartbroken when he heard the news of his beloved and respected father's death, and thus, wailed realizing the uncertainty in the prevalent conditions. He didn’t know his sister’s whereabouts, either - she was forcibly sent to the neighbouring villages in order to replace him in the bonded labour, upon him getting arrested.

All of this this created a turmoil, so much so that his sorrow knew no bounds. When his fellow inmates tried to console him, his suppressed grief resurfaced he began sobbing. His silent wail turned into an outburst, as his woes became unbearable and he needed an outlet.
