Part B
Procedure :
(1) Take some fine soil in a flat container
(2) Add some water to it to form soft mud
(3) Keep the container on the floor near the table
(4) Keep the wooden block and iron block on the table and push them gently one at a time in such a way
that they fall on the mud in the container.
(5) Observe the impressions produced by the blocks in the mud in the container. Explain the same.
Diagrams: Read the procedure and draw neat labelled diagrams accordingly
(a) The condition before the blocks fall on the mud
(b) The condition after the blocks fall on the mud

Observation & explanation : The impression produced in the mud by the copper or iron black deeper and move clear than that produced by the wooden block. The density of a metal such as copper or iron is for greater than that of wood. Density = mass/volume. The wooden block and the metal block are of the same and hence the have same volume. It follows that the mass and hence the weight of the metal block is for greater than that of the wooden block. All so the two blocks fall through the same height and strike the mud. Therefore, the metals block sinks deeper in the mud relative to the wooden block. This is consistent with Newton's first law and of motion.
