Parth misses train by 1 hour if he travels at speed of 4km/h. If he increases speed to 5 km/h, he still misses the train by 24 minutes. At what speed should he travel so that he reaches station on time?

In both the cases, distance ‘d’ travelled is same. When he travels at 5 kmph, he reached the station 36 min earlier than when he travels at 4 kmph.
Time = Distance/Speed
⇒ d/5 + 36/60 = d/4
⇒ d/4 – d/5 = 36/60
⇒ d/20 = 36/60 ⇒ d = 12 km.
When he travels at 4 kmph, he reaches after 3 hours and still is late by 1 hour. Therefore, he has to reach station in 2 hours.
∴ Required speed = 12/2 = 6 kmph
