2 The impact of cable TV on children is too strong to be ignored. The consequences of

the cable phenomenon are slowly beginning to be felt now. Nita is five and very bright.

But she has lately failed to progress much with her alphabet. However, her TV vocabulary

has been improving with every passing day. She can be heard discussing an 'extra

channel with her school friends, who like her have a cable connection at home. Films

Star plus serials, Wimbledon on Prime Sports and the latest hot numbers on Music TV

(MTV) are the current topics of discussion among children who are getting more and

more 'star' struck. It is only to be hoped that like all new inventions people will soon

learn to use cable TV also only for a short while.
