Captain Singh retired from the army at the age of fifty-five. This was ten years ago. He is
now sixty-five. But he is still robust and youthful. He can walk faster and work harder than
most young men. He was a very good sportsman in his younger days and played football,
hockey and cricket for his school, college and regiment. Captain Singh goes out for a long
walk every morning. His friends go with him too. On the way, they talk about all kinds of
things, exchange jokes and laugh. One morning they sat in Lodhi Garden. Captain Singh
began to tell his friends how a man can always remain young. He said that he was still
young because he ate food on time, went to bed on time and had a morning walk everyday.
He said this and gently twirled the ends of his moustache which he dyed black everyday.
"You have a beautiful black moustache, captain," said one of his friends. "Thank you",
said Captain Singh. "It is the moustache of a young man." "But," said his friend, "the hair
on your head is all grey. Will you please tell us why your moustache hasn't become grey?"
"Don't you know," replied Captain Singh "that the moustache is sixteen years younger than
the hair on my head."
