Passage.Read carefully and answer.

The clock strikes midnight The man climbs a staircase to a special room in his house. He wears a robe with strange designs on it, and carries a book. Seating himself in front of a three-legged stand,
he sprinkles water on his robe, feet and then places a bowl of water on the stand. As he gazes into the
water, the man goes into a trance Voices speak to him and he sees visions in the water - pictures
of earthquakes, fires and wars .... All the time he is in the trance, the man is writing down what he
sees in his book.
When the morning light comes through the window, he is finished. The man was Michel de
Nostredame - he called himself Nostradamus. He grew up to become a doctor. As a young man he
travelled throughout Europe, healing victims of the Black Plague, a horrible disease. Returning home,
he married and settled down to practise medicine. But after two years of marriage, his wife and two
children died of plague. Heartbroken, Nostradamus returned to his travels. Wherever he visited, he
left healthier people. It was almost as if his medicines had magical charms. During his travels in Italy,
he approached a young monk in the street and knelt before him, addressing the man as _His Holiness".
Nineteen years after Nostradamus died, that very monk was elected Pope Sixtus V.
He gives up his medical practice and devotes his ome to the trances that allowed him to see into the
future. During these dances, he wrote his visions in four -line verses and grouped these into sets of
100 verses. He called these sets "Centuries". While the visions were very clear to Nostradamus, he
didn't want them to anger people in authority, nor did he want to be accused of sorcery - a crime
punishable by burning at the stake,
In 1555, he published "Centuries, and the book was a bestseller. However, as excited as most people
were by the events he fore casted, many were angry that he had not given dates exactly when they
would occur. But these critics were stopped when one of his predictions occurred shortly after his
book was published. It was the death of Henry 11, King of France. Nostradamus had written:
A young lion will defeat an old lion in a duel. The young lion's weapon will pierce the golden cage of
the old lion. The weapon will strike the old Lion's eyes. And he will die. Nostradamus . prediction
sounded vague, yet he forecasted correctly what happened. A young nobleman's lance went through
Henry's golden helmet in a jousting match and ripped into his eyes. The old King suffered for ten days
and then died.
After this event. Nostradamus - neputation as a prophet was well established. He became a friend and
adviser to rulers, and had great influence. One day in 1566, Nostradamus told one of his students
Tomorrow at sunrise I shall not be here" And the following day he died. Nostradamus was buried
standing up, because he didn't want anyone walking on his bones. In addition to his Centuries
