Passengers lean forward when sudden brake is applied in a moving vehicle. This can be explained by INERTIA OF MOTION.
- Let us assume that passengers are sitting in a moving vehicle. So the passengers are also in motion with the same velocity as that of the moving vehicle.
- Now , suddenly when the vehicle applies brake (retardation) and stops , the lower part of the body of passengers (which are in contact with the vehicle) stop.
- However , the upper part of the body of the passengers (which are not in contact with the vehicle) move forward due to inertia of motion.
- That is why the drivers are recommended to stop the cars slowly in order to prevent accidental moving forward of the passengers.
Hope It Helps.

Answer:
This can be explained by First law of motion, also known as law of inertia.
Explanation:
This law states that a body continues to stay in a given state unless it is acted upon by an unbalanced force. In a moving vehicle passengers are in a state of motion and when brakes are applied suddenly, an unbalanced force acts on passengers. This forces causes them to change their current state and inertia resists that change, forcing them to lean forward. So actually this resistance to change in state of motion is the reason for leaning forward.
