YOUR ANSWER

Explanation:

The action that began in the past and continued till a paticular time/ period ( continuously or continued time) is called past continuous tense.

For example

I was playing.

My mother was baking delicious cake.

The boys were bullying the small boy.

The teacher was scolding the child.

The children were eating their lunch at canteen.

etc. There are infinitive sentences with past continuous tense.

----------------------x--------------------

these all sentences began in the past continued 'constant/ continuously' at that particular time in the past and ended.

you see i have given the examples:

lets speak about the first sentence " I was playing"

here is written was, that means i was playing at

a constant motion in the past but i am not playing now. I was playing continuously at a particular period and now i have ended it. When i was playing i played at a constant manner for that the word is written playing and it was long back so it is mentioned was and the action after it. If i am playing now and not ended yet then the action would be i am playing since i am playing constantly and have not ended now. but the helping verb is was so the action was in the past and at a constant motion in the past.

I think i have given you enough explanation of the first sentence.

now the second sentence is also same that my mother was baking a delicious cake, that means my mother was baking the cake continuously in the past and has ended now.

Like the two sentences the other three sentences are same by following my same given definition, but there is difference of was and were.

In a sentence there is always a verb except exclamatory and also a helping verb. Now the helping verb clears that whether the sentence will be which tense. Now here in past continuous the helping verb is was or were for that you could easily understand that sentences are past continuous tense.

Important note: was, were. Remember that in past continuous tense if the sentences contains plural sebject then the verb will continue with were. For example the boys were bullying the small boy. who were bullying the boys. the boy word has also a letter "s" so it is plural.

If the sentence contains single subject then the verb in past continuous will be was. the teacher was scolding the child, who was scolding the teacher( single) so it will be was( past) as a helping verb and the continuous verb
