[1] The Dhangars were an important community of Maharashtra. Most of them were shepherds; blanket weavers and others were buffalo herders. [2] They stayed in the central plateau of Maharashtra during the monsoon. [3] Due to low rainfall and poor soil they grew dry crops like bajra. [4] By October they harvested their bajra crop and moved towards Konkan along with their herds. [5] Due to uncertain conditions of nature, they have to engage in small trades like blanket weaving and milk products.
