Pastoralists with the changing times are no longer confined to their traditional activity of hunting, rearing cattle and finding pastures for them. Most of them have started engaging in different activities by giving up their nomadic lifestyle.many have reduced their numbers of cattle due to shortage of grazing grounds and pastures for them.
The life of the Maasais in Africa had changed after colonial rule with the demarcation of the Maasailand which has reduced the grazing lands.Maasai's remained confined to a dry and arid zone where drought was a common phenomenon. Many of their livestock died out of famine. Under such a situation they had to search for new jobs in the towns. Some engaged as construction labourers .Some also go involved in trade.
