Patol babu was a hardworking and talented actor. When he was given the role in which he just had to say 'Oh' he firstly became sad but worked so hard on the dialogue and expressions that with his perfect dialogue delivery and expressions he impressed the director. He tried to add perfect expressions. With such a small dialogue he showed a lot of patience and hardwork. Also his perfect time of collision and idea of using newspaper was appreciated. Even when he collided so hard with the main actor , he did the role so well. These were the things that made Patol babu to win admiration of the director.

It is unquestionably true that hard work and patience never go unrewarded. Satyajit Ray has beautifully described it through the character of Patol Babu. In spite of getting such an insignificant role, Patol Babu decided to do the role. He practiced very hard on his one-word dialogue.  He went to a secluded corner and started enunciating the syllable in various ways. Along with that he worked out how he would react physically when the collision took place--how his features would be twisted in pain, how he would fling out his arms, how his body would crouch to express pain and surprise--all these he performed in various ways in front of a large glass window.  And when the scene was shot, he gave a flawless performance. All the crew praised him. He himself felt pure satisfaction. This was an invaluable reward for him.
