Sitilakanto Ray, known as Patol Babu was a ‘Jatra’ (Bengali play) actor. Very passionate about stage performance, he could recall moments and dialogues even later in his life. When he was offered a chance to act in Barren Mullick’s movie, he was overjoyed. However, his role required only answers in monosyllables and this upset him initially. Yet, he took every effort to deliver the dialogue as naturally as possible, with the right expression and tone. After the shot, he left without taking any fees, because he felt nothing could equate the joy of a task well done.
