Find the percentage of salary left after spending on food:

Remaining = 100 - 10 = 90%

Find the percentage of salary left after spending on Transport:

Transport = 20% x 90% = .2 x 90% = 19%

Remaining = 90 - 18 = 72%

Find the salary:

72% = Rs 3600

1% = 3600 ÷ 72 = Rs 50

100% = 50 x 100 = Rs 5000

Answer: His salary is Rs 5000

PADMINI: i don't understand why u minus 20 from 100 . while in the question food percentage is shown 10%
TooFree: @knowledgeseekar Thank you for highlighting it. Corrected. :)
PADMINI: my pleasure :)
PADMINI: i think 0.2 x 90% = 18%. but you wrote there 19%
PADMINI: don't mind , i m just saying. jus change it to 18%
TooFree: I am aware. But captain is holding on to the ticket. I have already asked for another edit but he is offline. So I will have to wait.
PADMINI: okay.

let his salary = 100 %

given spent on food = 10%

100 x 10% = 10

100 - 10 = 90

Given spent on transport 20% on remaining salary

90 x 20% = 18 .

total percentage of spending

10 + 18 = 28 % .

100 - 28 = 72% (Savings)

given savings = 3600.

if 72% = 3600

then 28% = ?

= 28 x 3600 ÷ 72

= 10800 / 72 = 1400.

total salary = 3600 + 1400 = 5000

hence , his salary = 5000.
