Given : Paul took a trip in May.

He paid $3.50 per gallon of gasoline while on the trip.

He filled his van four times over the trip.

The amounts he bought were: 15.082 gallons, 15.784 gallons, 14.804 gallons, and 15.331 gallons.

To Find : How much gasoline did he buy on the trip? Explain your reasoning.

Solution:

The amounts he bought were: 15.082 gallons, 15.784 gallons, 14.804 gallons, and 15.331 gallons.

Hence total amount spent is sum of all the amounts

= 15.082 + 15.784 + 14.804 + 15.331

= 61.001   gallon

Hence gasoline   bought =  61.001   gallon
