Payal can cover a certain distance in 1hr 24min by covering two-third of the distance at 4km/hr and the rest at 5km/hr. Find the total distance covered........ Kindly give the solution also..

let the total distance be x then;

i. distance = 2/3 of x
speed = 4 km/hr
Time = distance/speed
= 2x/3×4
= x/6 hr

ii. Distance = x-2/3 of x
= x-2x/3
= x/3
Speed = 5 km/hr
Time = distance/speed
= x/3 ÷ 5
= x/15


Total time to cover the x distance = x/6 + x/15
1 hr 24 min = (5x +2x)/30
1 + 24/60 hr = 7x/30
(1+24/60) × 30 = 7x
(30 +12)/7 = x
x = 6

Therefore the total distance covered will be 6 km.
