on heating lead nitrate,it undergoes thermal decomposition and it gives a brown fume of nitrogen dioxide,oxygen gas and a yellow residue of lead oxide  is left behind.when the evolved gas is passed over wooden glowing splinters it rekindles.This show the presence of oxygen gas
