The balanced equation will be 2Pb_{3} O_{4} =6 PbO + O2.

  • While writing a chemical equation we can write it in two different ways, unbalanced and Balanced chemical reaction.
  • In an unbalanced chemical reaction, the number of atoms in the reactant may not be equal to the number of atoms in the product. Example: Al+O_{2} \ = > Al_{2} O_{3}.
  • In a balanced chemical reaction, the number of atoms in the reactant must be equal to the number of atoms in the product. Example: 4 Al+3O_{2}=2Al_{2}O_{3}.
  • In the given equation Pb_{3}O_{4}\ = > PbO+O_{2}, on the reactant side, the number of Pb atoms is 3 and the number of O atoms is 4 and on the product side, the number of Pb atoms is 1 and the number of O atoms is 3. So, this chemical reaction is unbalanced.
  • If we write 2Pb_{3}O_{4} on the reactant side and 6 PbO on the product side, we can check the reaction will be balanced.
