Peasant movement in India occurred during the British Colonial Rule in the nineteenth and twentieth century. The peasant movements of twentieth century were mainly inspired by and had great effect on the national freedom struggle. Many peasant movements occurred throughout India which played a great role in the Indian Freedom Struggle.

● The very first peasant movement in the twentieth century was the Kisan Sabha Movement. The UP Kisan Sabha was setup in february, 1918 by Gauri Shankar Mishra and Indira Narayan Dwivedi. This Sabha told Kisans not to till Bedakhali lands and not to pay Hari and Begar but later on it was repressed by the government.

● Bardoli Satyagraha was a main peasant movement in the Bardoli Taluqa in Surat where the British Government decided to increase the land revenue by 30 percent, this sparked the Bardoli Satyagraha in January 1926. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the leader of this movement.

● All India Kisan Congress was also setup in Lucknow in 1936 with Swami Sahajan and Saraswati as the president and N.G. Ranga as the general secretary.
