Answer:

This refers to the sad incident that had taken place at school; Wanda's parents had withdrawn Wanda from the school because some girls in her class made fun of her unique name and financial condition.

Explanation:

It was the bad behavior of her classmates that led to her leaving the school. Most of the students usually made fun of her. She belonged to a family that was not affluent; however, she was an extraordinarily brilliant girl; her brilliance was hidden under the faded blue dress she wore and her weird name, Petronski. Wanda must have felt lonely and miserable in the class. She must have discussed this discriminatory behavior with her family members.

As a result of this bullying, Wanda stopped coming to school; quite interestingly Wanda won the drawing competition held at the school. Then all the students realized how talented Wanda was. They felt sorry for having treated Wanda badly. Madeline, particularly felt bad as she also was not very rich.

Wanda’s father wrote a letter to Wanda’s teacher complaining about the ill-treatment his daughter had received from the American students.
