Bhimbetka is one of the oldest discovered habitation sites in India. Situated 60 Km away from Bhopal, Bhimbetka seems lively as the rock shelters here portray numerous paintings carved by earlier habitats.

Exhibiting the rock age paintings, the Bhimbetka rock shelters shows early traces of human life. These paintings are about hunting, festivals, agriculture and prehistoric lifestyle of earlier habitats. Forest department charges a nominal fee per visitor to explore this prehistoric place. Because of its archeological importance, it has been declared as a World Heritage Site.

More than 500 caves and shelters were discovered in 1953, and in 2003 Bhimbetka was announced as World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
