Pencil partly immersed in water appears to be displaced at the at the interface of air and water. Why?

ANSWER..
THIS HAPPENS DUE TO THE REFRACTION OF LIGTH WHEB IT PASSES FROM AIR TO WATER.
MEANS FROM RARER TO DENSER THE LIGTH BENDS DUE TO WHICH THE LIGTH RAYS MET AT A HEIGTH ABOVE THE REAL HEIGTH OF PENCIL... HENCE IT'S APPEARS TO BE DISPLACED.
