Pendulum A
14 oscillations in 5 seconds
No. of oscillations in 1 second = 2.8 Hz
Frequency = 2.8 Hz

Pendulum B
10 oscillations in 3 seconds
No. of oscillations in 1 second = 3.33 Hz
Frequency = 3.33 Hz

∴ Pendulum B has higher frequency

Given:

  • Pendulum A oscillates 14 times in 5 seconds.
  • Pendulum B oscillates 10 times in 3 seconds.

To find:

  • Which pendulum has higher frequency ?
  • Express the value in hertz

Calculation:

First of all, let's define frequency :

  • Frequency is defined as the number of oscillations completed in 1 second.

  • The SI UNIT of frequency is per second (also known as Hertz )

For pendulum A :

frequency =  \dfrac{no. \: of \: oscillations}{time}

 \implies frequency =  \dfrac{14}{5}

 \implies frequency = 2.8 \: hz

For pendulum B :

frequency =  \dfrac{no. \: of \: oscillations}{time}

 \implies frequency =  \dfrac{10}{3}

 \implies frequency = 3.33 \: hz

So, pendulum B has higher frequency.
