A person's ‘tendency to screen out’ most of the ‘information’ to which he or she is exposed is called selective attention.
Explanation:
- Human brain respond to a ‘wide range’ of stimulus. But most of the stimulus are of no use. Hence the human sense organs and the cortex are developed in such a way so that it only perceives the stimulus that is important for learning, planning or protection.
- These are finely tuned in the sense organ level and the cerebral level. For example in ear there are a group of inner and outer hair cells.
- They pick up different frequency sound. Hence while we eavesdropping we adjust to a different sound amplitude than when we talk to someone. This is called selective attention.
