Answer:

People may have conflicting development goals. The following examples support the statement:

a. The developmental goals are the desires of the people to improve their standard in all ways. These goals are different for different classes of people. What is a necessity for someone may be luxury for another? For example, a two-wheeler which is very much needed for a sales representative may be a luxury for a newspaper boy.

b. The construction of dams and other multipurpose river valley projects might be a great investment for the Government. But it means displacement and socio-economic issues for the tribes residing in those areas.

c. The construction of the dam (Sardar Sarovar) may be welcomed by the people of an area as it will help in solving drinking water scarcity and irrigation of land. But many other people of an area may not like this project as it will uproot them from their habitat, submerge the vegetation, and may leave them jobless.

Even though goals may seem conflicting as different people have different notions of development, it can also lead to the development of the nation as a whole.

Answer: Both the statements are true but their meanings are different. Two

people may have different developmental goals buy they need not always be

conflicting. For example; construction of a flyover to reduce waiting time at a

railway crossing can be the developmental goal for an office worker. But if the

construction of the flyover necessitates demolition of slums, it can be

contradictory for the slum dwellers. But on the other hand, 24 hour electricity

supply would be developmental goal for almost each and every person.
