I am assuming it is related to the history of their previous generations not their own past.
Explanation:
Examples :
• Descendents of kings and royals
• Descendents of long line of traders and merchants
etc.
Since it is believed that the way a person develops and behaves is related to the way he was brought up and his genes it is considered that the descendants will show some of the traits of the previous generations ( or is expected of them ) as such over time they accept that and start believing that they will also show such traits and start taking pride in their lineage and telling others just to strengthen their beliefs and to show others their superiority in certain fields that they take pride in.
